The SCHLEESE Sheridon western saddle. This “Wundersattel” is one of the lightest western saddles on the market and is just as adaptable to the anatomy of horse and rider as all SCHLEESE saddles. The seat curve as well as the pillion, the channel and the adjustment of the saddle are possible on site via Velcro. Under the guidance of a saddle ergonomist, you can also use one Devin saddle for several horses. However, this is only possible after detailed instructions have been provided by one of our partners.

Western saddle: Special features in terms of construction and adjustment options
English saddles offer a wide range of adjustment options, allowing you to adjust the saddle panels, tree width and tree angle. Unfortunately, this wide range of adjustments is not available with a Western saddle. Instead, the saddle tree is made of solid wood. To ensure that the tree does not interfere with the animal and that the Western saddle fits perfectly, it is important to choose it with the utmost care. Western saddles are often even custom-made. In addition to wooden saddle trees, models with plastic trees have become increasingly popular in recent years.
Pay particular attention to the length of Western saddles
Several factors play an important role in western saddles. One of these is length. Western saddles have a relatively large contact surface. This in turn ensures that the saddles quickly extend beyond the saddle area actually available on the horse. If this is the case, the animal will quickly experience very uncomfortable pressure points. In general, choosing the right length must ensure that the weight of the rider does not press on the animal's loins. It is therefore necessary to check individually that the centre of gravity of the seat is generally above the horse's balance point.
Do not saddle on the shoulder
Due to its considerable length, the Western saddle tempts you to saddle directly on the shoulder. But this must also be avoided at all costs. Instead, saddling must always be done behind the shoulder. Otherwise, the animal's freedom of movement will be significantly restricted. In addition, the cartilage tissue can be damaged. The tree width is always correct if you can easily slide your fingers between the saddle tree and the horses shoulder after girthing.
